HEW PLUGIN API EXCEPTION

Version 1.0, 6 July 2026

Copyright (C) 2026 Kurt Granroth

Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim copies of this
license document, but changing it is not allowed.

This Exception is an additional permission under section 7 of the GNU
Affero General Public License, version 3 ("AGPLv3"). It applies to a
given work (such as Hew) whose license notice states that the work is
governed by AGPLv3 together with this Exception.

When you convey a copy of, or provide remote network access to, a work
governed by AGPLv3 together with this Exception, you may at your option
rely on this Exception. Terms not defined here have the meanings given
in AGPLv3.

0. Definitions.

"Hew" means any work governed by AGPLv3 together with this Exception.

The "Plugin API" means, for a given version of Hew, the application
programming interfaces, extension points, inter-process interfaces,
and scripting interfaces that that version of Hew documents and
publishes for the purpose of extending Hew, together with the data
formats those interfaces define, and any interface definitions, stubs,
type declarations, and software development kit materials that the Hew
project designates as part of the Plugin API.

A "Plugin" means a work that is designed to extend the functionality
of Hew through the Plugin API; that is not itself a version of Hew,
modified or unmodified; that does not incorporate source code or
object code of Hew other than materials designated as part of the
Plugin API; and whose interaction with Hew occurs solely through the
Plugin API.

1. Grant of Additional Permission.

You have permission to combine Hew with any Plugin, regardless of the
license terms of that Plugin, and to convey the resulting combination,
and to provide users remote network access to the resulting
combination. Doing so does not cause the Plugin to be governed by
AGPLv3, does not make the Plugin part of the Corresponding Source of
Hew, and does not require the source code of the Plugin to be conveyed
or otherwise made available. A Plugin may be distributed under any
terms, including proprietary ones.

2. Limits of This Exception.

This Exception does not alter your obligations under AGPLv3 with
respect to Hew itself. In particular, if you convey Hew or a modified
version of Hew, or provide users remote network access to Hew or a
modified version of Hew — whether or not combined with Plugins — the
Corresponding Source of Hew, including any modifications to Hew, must
be made available as AGPLv3 requires.

A work is not a Plugin for the purposes of this Exception, and this
Exception grants no permission with respect to it, if that work:

  a) incorporates or adapts source code or object code of Hew, other
than materials designated as part of the Plugin API; or

  b) links, statically or dynamically, against libraries or components
of Hew other than through the Plugin API; or

  c) interacts with Hew through interfaces other than the Plugin API.

3. Relationship to AGPLv3.

This Exception is an additional permission as described in section 7
of AGPLv3. As provided there, when you convey a copy of Hew you may at
your option remove this Exception from that copy. Removing this
Exception from a work you convey does not remove it from copies
conveyed by others, and does not affect any Plugin's reliance on this
Exception in connection with copies of Hew that retain it.

Nothing in this Exception requires the Hew project to publish or
maintain any particular Plugin API, nor limits its ability to change
the Plugin API between versions of Hew. The scope of the Plugin API
for a given version of Hew is fixed by what that version documents and
designates.
